MOS Technology VIC-II (6566/6567/6569)
The Commodore 64's video interface chip, and its clock master: the whole machine runs at whatever the video standard divides down to. It generates the display, fetches its own data from memory and drives the sprites Commodore called movable object blocks.

The 6566 has thirteen fully decoded addresses for a static bus; the 6567 multiplexes them for direct connection to 64K dynamic RAM. The 6569 is the PAL part. Bus mastering during raster fetches steals cycles from the processor, so the two chips share the memory bus rather than running independently.
