Against the 68000 in the Amiga 500 it is a genuine generational change rather than a faster clock — a 32 bit data path instead of 16, an instruction cache, and single-access operations where the 68000 needed two. Floating point is not on the die; the Amiga 1200 has a socket for a factory-installed 68881 or 68882 and nothing in it by default.
